Maspalomas Dunes
Maspalomas is the ideal place to spend an enjoyable day at the beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. One of the key features of this corner of the island is, of course, its gay beach, bars and services... But also, its dunes ! Forming a sea of sand at the south of the island, with more than 400 hectares of land, the dunes of Maspalomas offer a landscape of sand, wind and fantasy next to the sea. The Roque Nublo
Its one of the island’s highest points, and one of the most scenic spots in Gran Canaria. At over 1,800 metres we have Roque Nublo, one of the most impressive stone monoliths in the world. To reach the base, you just need to stroll along a route which offers fantastic views of the La Culata ravine and the Tejeda basin. If the weather is clear, you’ll be lucky enough to take a magnificent photo of Roque Nublo with the Teide (Tenerife Island) in the background. A Gran Canaria view which will leave you speechless.
Vegueta district, Las Palmas
The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also hides some spots which deserve a nice photo. The historic Vegueta district, declared a Historic Artistic Site, is known for its colonial black stone architecture, creating a unique set of streets in the capital. Casa de Colón (photo) or the Santa Ana cathedral are two of its most famous buildings which you should visit and photograph.
Teror and its typical canarian balconies
Teror is a small but very beautiful town in Gran Canaria. It is located in the interior of the north of Gran Canaria. Agriculture, livestock and tourism are responsible for the income. And its main street has dozens of typical Canarian wooden balconies that will be the perfect and original setting for a great selfie. This small town is worth visiting.
La fortaleza de Ansite (Ansite fortress)
These huge rocks form a natural fortress and constitute one of Gran Canaria's most important pre-Hispanic sites. It was here that the Guanches' last stand took place, with many opting to hurl themselves into the ravine rather than face a life of slavery. An interpretive centre fills you in on the history. Break out the hiking boots to explore the 'fortress', with its caves and tunnel cutting through 34m of mountain, a perfect place for a picture !
El Barranco de las Vacas
Barranco de las Vacas, in Agüimes, has become a must-visit for photography lovers, with its peculiar rocky formations known as Tobas de Colores. These rocks are very similar to the famous Antelope Canyon in the United States, something which has made this site a must-visit for people keen on curious and unique landscapes. You can access the Tobas de Colores via a leafy path which contrasts with the arid landscape of the rocks.
Puerto de Mogán
This small fishing village and its sailboats and white houses with pretty flower-filled balconies are a welcoming sight. This lovely scenic spot in Gran Canaria is known as Little Venice due to the unusual canals running through the streets. You’ll find the perfect backdrop at any of these pretty floral houses for a happy and colourful photo.
Degollada de las Yeguas Viewpoint
This viewpoint is located very near Maspalomas, on the way up to the beautiful Fataga town. This ravine is carved out of the lava flows of phonolitic rocks. These powerful lava flows correspond to the final phases of the first volcanic cycle in Gran Canaria, and would have been thrown up between 11 and 12 million years ago. The views from here are stunning and you'll get impresives selfies for sure !
Salinas de Tenefé (Tenefé Saltworks)
Located near the Pozo Izquierdo beach, this incredible saltworks were built at the end of the 18th century, their objective being the sale of salt to fishing boats and island consumption. Originally, these salt flats had three windmills that pumped the water up to the upper area. Today they are the best preserved example of saltworks on mud flats in Gran Canaria. A perfect place to take a very original photo.
El Cubo de Galdar
The Galdar's Cube or The Santiago Quarry forms an impressive container measuring 30x30x30 meters (27,000 m3), which is accessed through a tunnel of more than 30 meters that, once passed, opens a wide and surprising perspective from the bottom towards the blue sky, in contrast to the geometric lateral spaces of black shadows and reddish rochers, produced by the volcanic strata and extraction pits.
The Dolmen of Gran Canaria
The dolmen of Gran Canaria is an installation commanded by the municipality of Mogan and composed of four immense stones organized in the form of a prehistoric dolmen.These dimensions are important so that a person can easily pass them inside without being stuck.The dolmen is located on the edge of the sea at the meeting point between the Balito beach and the Anfi del Mar urbanisation. This is the perfect place for original and impressive selfies with the blue of the sea and the boats in the background.
The Love word in the Maspalomas Gay Beach
The Maspalomas gay beach is certainly one of the best known and busiest places in the seaside resort, so what better idea to take a photo in this spectacular environment ? And to be sure to get the best selfie, choose the word LOVE which appears in giant letters planted in the sand in front of the kiosks. You can also play with the shadow of the word which is clearly drawn on the ground thanks to the sun's rays. The effect is guaranteed.
Mirador del Balcón Viewpoint
Mirador del Balcón is certainly the Gran Canaria's most impresive viewpoint. It is located in the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolas, which is the island's westernmost municipality. From Mirador del Balcón, you can admire the rugged yet incredible landscape known as the Dragon's Tails, which is a set of cliffs that zig-zags toward the ocean on the horizon. The place has been recently renovated with large glass facades which allow you to observe the landscape without barriers and give the impression of being directly projected into space and into emptiness. It's impossible to miss a selfie from there.
