DJ Lucky, Dunas Map "Man of the Month" for July 2026

He is the most booked and active DJ and entertainer in the gay area of Maspalomas. DJ Lucky first worked for Disneyland Paris and then for the French TV channel M6 before moving to Gran Canaria, where he has developed numerous original projects. He is the Dunas Map 'Man of the Month' for July 2026. Discover his personality and his incredible journey.

· Hello DJ Lucky, could you introduce yourself as fully as possible ? What was your background in your country before moving to the island ?

- My name is Luc Metzger, I'm 37 years old, and I'm French. I hold a high school diploma in electronics and a higher technical certificate in audiovisual professions, specializing in sound, to become a sound engineer. I feel lucky because since I was a kid, I have found my passion: music! And it has been my work since I was 16 years old... as a DJ. I wanted to be a DJ even when I was 7 years old, but people told me it was not possible because I was too little... So I thought to myself, 'When I grow up, I will get my revenge...' 😅 And I did. That is why I was also a DJ teacher for kids starting at 7 years old in a school in Paris a few years ago. · A few years ago, you had a career on French television. Could you please tell us about that adventure? How long did it last, and what did it consist of?

- In 2001, I started as a DJ at Disneyland Paris. Having taken dance lessons when I was a kid starting at 6 years old, I asked Disneyland Paris if I could learn the summer choreography on the stage of the Disney Village. They said, 'Why not?'... and the Lucky Dance Party was born! It was a show where I taught people how to dance the real choreographies from original music videos like Macarena or The Ketchup Song in less than 5 minutes. The French TV channel M6 saw this and asked me, from 2004 to 2008, to be 'Mister Choreography' on their kids' program, M6 Kid. A few years later, I became the host of the program.

· Today, you are mainly known as a DJ. Can you explain to us how music came into your life and why and how you made this transition to becoming a DJ?

- Music is my father's passion, which he passed down to me when I was a kid. We used to rent CDs together, discover new albums, and sit right in the middle of the living room between the two loudspeakers... we had to be precise to fully hear all the stereo effects! We were totally crazy about it.

One day, when I was 16 years old, my brothers said, 'Come with us to the ice rink!' I answered, 'No, thank you... turning in circles on ice for three hours? No, thank you.' But then I thought, why not be the DJ? The next day, I asked myself, 'Why not go there and ask to be their DJ?' They met with me and said, 'Okay, but we won't pay you, and you will start on Sunday mornings with the seniors.' I said okay. It turned out to be the perfect place to learn my job: playing music, talking on the microphone, and teaching people how to dance... everything that makes me unique as a DJ today!

After that, I never stopped DJing. Later, I worked at Disneyland Paris, then for the 'Stars 80' tour, and now in Maspalomas. On top of that, I expanded my skills and took on other roles: remixer, show producer, host for the 'Stars 80' tour, and I even created my own record label and tried my hand at singing with 'Hey Baby'. You can find it now on all streaming platforms!

· Do you only work as a DJ full-time, or do you have another job during the day?

- After 5 years of hard work in Maspalomas, I can finally make a living solely as a DJ, doing my passion, so I really know how to appreciate it now. As a result, my other focus now is to create new concepts around DJing and music... My latest one? The QRCodeDJ! I act as the DJ for ice rinks all over France, but remotely. People scan the QR code around the ice rink in Bordeaux, for example, and I receive their WhatsApp messages here in Gran Canaria. I mix the songs in my kitchen, and the ice rink receives my mix in real-time over the internet for 3 hours. People can even record a WhatsApp audio message and hear their voices broadcast at the ice rink. I DJ in France without being physically there—that way, I don't need to pay for hotels and flights! 

· How long have you been living in Gran Canaria? Why did you decide to leave France, and why did you choose Maspalomas as your new home?

- I have lived here for 5 years. My ex-boyfriend is Spanish, and he made me fall in love with the Spanish lifestyle: the value of family, friendship, the sun, and feeling safe. I had dreamed of moving to Spain for a long time. During my 20 years in Paris, I realized all my dreams there, especially performing three times at the Stade de France in front of 40,000 people! But I like new challenges... so when COVID arrived, I said to myself, 'I need to turn this sad moment into an opportunity.' I tried Madrid, Barcelona, and Maspalomas. In Madrid, I missed the beach. Barcelona is like a second Paris, so no. But Maspalomas... I've known it for 20 years because I used to come here every year on holiday.

This place has something special and unique compared to any other gay destination in the world. When you are gay, like me, it's paradise. Everything is close by: the beach, the Yumbo, bars, drag clubs, and something for everyone, from vanilla to fetish. In April 2021, the Voulez Vous Bar at the Yumbo offered me a job as a DJ. I accepted doing a trial, and that's how the adventure began. After that, I played at AxelBeach Hotel, La Bulle, Kiki, Basement, Los Almendros, The Central Stage Yumbo, Tropical La Zona, Ritual, Noxon... I think I've played in almost every venue possible here!

· Where can we hear you mixing right now in Maspalomas? Tell us about your collaboration with the Axel Beach hotel and Tom’s Bar.

- I don't have a SoundCloud; I prefer the idea that if people want to listen to me, it has to be live! You can catch me at Tom's Bar or at the Axel Beach Hotel for the Peluca Bingo. This is a concept I never imagined would be such a huge success: it's the first bingo where you are allowed to cheat! If you wear a 'peluca' (wig) of Britney, Lady Gaga, or Rihanna for more than 2 minutes, you can choose the number you need to win the bingo!

We also have the iconic 'Barbecue Pool Party' at the Axel Beach Hotel every Saturday. I'm very proud of this because, outside of the Pride events in May and November, Axel Beach is the only hotel in Maspalomas that offers a recurring event every Friday and Saturday.

· What kind of music do you usually play? Do you have a particular style? Any favorites? What are your tastes?

- I love gay pop and dance hits from 1970 to 2026. What makes my style unique, I think, is that I talk a bit on the mic in French, English, and Spanish, which creates an immediate connection with the people. I also use jingles and lip-sync to my own pre-recorded voice... people don't always understand how I can speak without a mic, haha!

My other specialty is that I mix the songs people request via WhatsApp, making sure they leave happy. This means I never know five minutes in advance what I will be mixing, and I reply to the WhatsApp messages too! That way, people have proof that I am mixing live. I also organize games during the pool parties because I love having fun.

One last thing: I remix songs in real-time if they are too slow, and sometimes I dress up like Mariah Carey or Frozen for two minutes just to make people laugh... I love making people laugh! I know I look horrible, but I don't care, as long as it gives people a good time!

· What do you think of the music played at major gay events in Maspalomas or in local nightclubs? In your opinion, why is trance music never played, even though it is highly appreciated by many clubbers?

- It's not my cup of tea, but people love it... Who am I to say it's not good? I think the first lesson you learn when you realize you are gay is to respect everyone's tastes. I like the idea that if you want to succeed, it's important to do something different and not copy others... try to find your signature. For a DJ, it's the same, and I think I've found mine.

Personally, I never play trance music because if you do, you end up with only three people on the dance floor. Not because it's not good music, but because for the people here, Maspalomas means gay pop hits or circuit music, not trance. That's just my business perspective... maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. But it's true that lot of places always play the same outdated dance songs. That's why I created the WhatsApp requests... that way, I avoid that, and it's exactly what people want. But it's complicated to manage—it took me 5 years to perfect it!

· Do you have any upcoming projects or news that you would like to tell us about? What are your plans for the future over the coming years? Do you have any dreams you would like to fulfill?

- As I told you, I'm at Tom's Bar at the Axel Beach Hotel... and during Winter Pride in November and Pride in May. I also have two more special events: 'The Big Dick Pool Party' and 'The Secret Sex Party'.

I have one last dream: to try to be the first DJ in the world who sings and dances and to write a happy song that becomes super popular all around the world in French, Spanish, and English... Do Eurovision? Why not? It costs nothing to try... if it doesn't work, that's OK. I'm already super happy every day when I wake up here in Maspalomas. It's just a last challenge for me.

· Do you find that Maspalomas has changed a lot over the last few years? What are the most significant changes you have noticed, and what do you think of them?

- For me, Maspalomas is alive and everything can change so fast... that's why I think that if you have success, it's important to stay humble and work on future concepts, because in a few months, everything can change. It could be because of the weather, the price of flights, apartment rents, or someone else's great new concept.

If you are not highly reactive with your offers, update them often, and really connect with the clients' requests—who are more demanding because they pay a lot of money to enjoy themselves, and I can understand that—you can lose your number one position. This is exactly what I've observed. So, I try to work hard to avoid making this mistake.

· What do you think could be improved for the gay scene in Maspalomas? Are there things that should be changed or added?

- We have to stop booking the same artists on stage every year, just like we've been doing for 20 years. Why run the same events year after year with the exact same promo visuals? People notice that.

They should create a desk or a WhatsApp number where, all year round, all talents can easily contact the Yumbo stage to showcase their talent and perform there... whether they are Canarian or not.

It totally depends on us... the creators of entertainment. By nature, I'm over-optimistic, so there's your answer.

· Do you have any hobbies or activities outside of your work in Maspalomas?

- Gym, running, swimming, surfing... it helps me disconnect and find new ideas. Starting in September, I want to learn how to write songs without AI, and then become a DJ instructor. I want to teach kids how to DJ starting from 7 years old up to 77... I dream of teaching a senior how to DJ—imagine that on the Yumbo stage!

· What are your favorite places or events in Maspalomas? Where do you like to go out to have fun, unwind, or grab a bite to eat?

- I love the beach; I know it's not very original... Outside of work, it's true that I stay at home quite a bit... being a DJ six times a week all year round is a lot... so I love to relax around the pool, read, or watch movies and series. I love traveling too... and discovering new cities that I don't know... but it's complicated when you work as a DJ all year round. So, for the first time in five years, I have one week totally off this August... it's a miracle! For me, because I'm a DJ, when I'm free... going to the Yumbo is the last thing I want to do.

To eat? The Ritz in the Yumbo... it's crazy, you can go whenever you want, it's always super good and fast. As for bars, I love the Parrots Bar, the Voulez-Vous with their pop music videos, the 21 Bar, the Eiffel Bar, the Junior Bar, Peppermint, Copacabana...

> Mylène Farmer a French singer who has a special universe.. French gay love her... the only one singer who don't have social media... I don't like social media.. I don't go often on it... I just publish my schedule of work but I never put on it my private life

> Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg, Max Martin, Mickael Jackson, Mylène Farmer (at the begin of her career)
