He calls himself a citizen of the world ; he is polyglot, possesses a dual Spanish and German culture, and has lived in Gran Canaria since 2015. After various professional experiences, he is now thriving as a real estate agent in Maspalomas. Meet Ristuli Hidalgo, Dunas Map "Man of the month" for February 2026, and discover his journey and his passions.

· Hello Ristuli, could you introduce yourself as fully as possible, what are the main things we should know about you ?
My name is Ristuli Hidalgo Kiriakides. I was born in Peru, and at the age of 16 I left Lima to move to Germany with the goal of building my future through education.
I initially moved to study Graphic Design at the University of Cologne, and during those years I lived both in Berlin and Cologne. Living in different cities and cultures at a young age had a strong influence on my way of thinking and communicating, and it helped me develop a very open and international mindset.
Before moving to Gran Canaria, my background was mainly creative and international. Although I initially studied Graphic Design, with time I realized that it wasn’t truly my vocation. I felt the need for something more dynamic and people-oriented. That led me to complete a hospitality apprenticeship (Ausbildung) in Germany, which opened the door to my first real experience in the sector.
Almost by coincidence, and without knowing what the future would bring, I had the opportunity to manage a Spanish tapas bar in Cologne, Germany. That experience was incredibly valuable and gave me a solid foundation in hospitality—long hours, responsibility, customer care, and business management. Looking back, it was essential preparation for what would come later.
Today, I combine my international background, creative education, and passion for people to offer a very personal and professional approach to real estate in Gran Canaria.
· You are like a citizen of the world, do you feel it is a real asset for you ?
I truly see myself as a citizen of the world, and that comes very naturally from my life journey. I was born in Peru, grew up across different countries, and spent my formative years in Germany, which gave me a strong connection to both Spanish and German cultures.
Living in different places from a young age taught me how to adapt, listen, and understand different ways of thinking. Language is not just about words; it’s about culture, mentality, and emotions. Speaking Spanish, German, English, and French allows me to connect with people on a deeper level, especially in an international environment like Gran Canaria.
I absolutely see this as a real asset, both personally and professionally. In real estate, trust is everything, and when clients can express themselves in their own language, they feel understood and safe. It removes barriers and creates genuine relationships.
For me, this multicultural background is not something I switch on or off—it’s who I am. It helps me build bridges between people, cultures, and opportunities, and that is something I value deeply in my work every day.

· Why and when did you choose Gran Canaria as your home ? Do you live in Maspalomas ? What was your background before moving to the island ?
I chose Gran Canaria as my home in 2015. From the very beginning, the island fascinated me—not only because of its climate, but because of the lifestyle, the diversity, and the feeling of balance it offers. It felt like a place where I could truly settle and grow. Gran Canaria is not just the place where I live, but the place where I truly feel at home.
I live in Maspalomas, more specifically in Meloneras, an area I really love. At first, we chose Meloneras because it was close to our tapas bar, which my partner and I were running at the time. Over the years, this place naturally became my home.
What I enjoy most about Meloneras is its calm atmosphere, the quality of life, and the international tourism that gives the area such a vibrant yet relaxed character. The climate here is truly exceptional, and it’s a place where you can feel at ease all year round.
With time, effort, and many savings, I was also able to buy a small apartment in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This allowed me to better discover and understand life in the capital, its rhythm, culture, and local character. I feel very privileged to have experienced both sides of the island—the south and the city—as they complement each other beautifully.
For me, Gran Canaria represents much more than a place to live. It’s where my journey, my experiences, and my values came together. I arrived on the island looking for a new chapter, and I found a home, a community, and a sense of belonging. Today, I feel grateful and privileged to call this island my home and to contribute to it through my work at Century 21 and my relationships with people.
· Tell us about your real estate agent activity : When did you start in this profession, why did you choose it and why did you decide to become a Century 21 affiliate ?
In 2022, I felt a strong calling to study and become a real estate agent—a profession that had always fascinated me. I clearly remember watching real estate agents on television and feeling that this was something I would love to do myself one day. I studied at a training center in Las Palmas, where I successfully graduated as a real estate agent, then I officially started my career. My interest in this profession had been present for many years. I’ve always been fascinated by real estate and by the role of the agent as someone who guides people through important decisions, not only financially, but also emotionally. At a certain point, I felt it was the right moment to take that step and professionalize that passion.
Shortly afterwards, Century 21 gave me the opportunity to become part of their family, a decision that has proven to be one of the best choices of my life. I was very fortunate to join the Dream Homes agency in Playa del Inglés, an office that has supported me strongly from the very beginning. They trusted me from day one and continuously help me grow, both professionally and personally. Being part of this team has given me structure, training, and the confidence to develop my own way of working while being backed by a solid international brand.

· What is your take on the current real estate situation in Gran Canaria, particularly in the south ?
Regarding the current real estate situation in Gran Canaria, especially in the south of the island, the market is very diverse but clearly under strong pressure. Thanks to the attractive climate and lifestyle, demand remains very solid—particularly from international buyers—while supply is limited due to land scarcity and the conversion of residential properties into tourist accommodations.
This has turned areas such as Maspalomas and Meloneras into clearly premium markets, with prices at historical highs, making access to housing increasingly difficult for the local population. At the same time, the new regulations on vacation rentals aim to rebalance tourism with the need for residential housing. Because of this, we expect a phase of more moderate price growth and a slightly more regulated market in the coming years.
On a personal level, I put everything I can into my work to help contribute—within my role—to a healthier and more balanced market. For me, being a real estate agent also means acting responsibly, advising honestly, and trying to find solutions that respect both investors and the local community.
· You are also known as one of the owners of Kopaz, a beautiful seaside terrace bar in Meloneras. What led you to join the Kopaz adventure ? Is it easy for you to balance your journey in the hospitality industry and your work as a real estate agent ?
Yes, my partner and I owned and ran a tapas bar in Meloneras, an experience that gave us many precious and unforgettable moments, and taught me a lot about hospitality, people, and service.
When my partner and I moved to Gran Canaria, all our background naturally came together in the creation of KopaZ Meloneras. My partner, Christian, studied Business Administration, which made us a perfect combination: hospitality experience on one side and strong business management on the other. Together, we built KopaZ as a welcoming and well-run seaside terrace bar in Meloneras.
Today, Christian is fully in charge of the daily management of KopaZ, while I help occasionally when needed. My main professional focus is now my work as a real estate agent, which has become my priority.
At the beginning, balancing both worlds was not easy. The studies to become a real estate agent required a lot of dedication, and the workload was intense. There were many long days, challenges, and moments of doubt, but I stayed committed to my goal. Thanks to perseverance—and especially thanks to the strong support of my partner, Christian—I was able to complete my training successfully and start this new chapter of my career. Without his support, it would not have been possible.
I see hospitality as a crucial part of my journey. It shaped my work ethic, my resilience, and my connection with people, all of which I now bring into my real estate profession with great pride.

· Those who follow you on social media may have noticed your strong interest in Maspalomas' municipal politics and that you often share posts from the 'Hablemos Ahora' team. Is it important for you to be involved in the management of the municipality ?
My interest in local municipal life comes from the fact that I live and work here, and this community is my home. Being informed and involved in what happens in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana feels natural to me as a resident and professional who cares about the future of the area.
I first met Paco Pérez, the president of Hablemos Ahora, during one of his visits where he was speaking directly with residents and explaining their political approach. What struck me most was his dedication, accessibility, and clarity. I connected with a way of thinking that I would describe as progressive, nationalist in the sense of protecting local interests, and liberal, focused on dialogue, transparency, and responsibility.
My support for Hablemos Ahora at the municipal level is based on these values rather than on party politics. They are currently preparing for the 2027 local elections, and I appreciate the fact that they already have a presence in almost all municipalities across Gran Canaria, encouraging local participation and open discussion.
At this moment, I don’t know whether I will assume more responsibilities in the future. My priority remains my professional work. However, I am always open to new decisions and possibilities if they make sense personally and ethically. I strongly believe that contributing—each in our own way—to a better future for our community is important.
For me, involvement starts with listening, understanding, and supporting initiatives that aim to improve quality of life, always with a constructive and respectful mindset.
· You have a passion for horseback riding, and you have your own horse. Tell us about this passion.
My passion for horseback riding was born as a need for connection—with nature, with animals, and with myself. Over time, it became much more than a hobby; it turned into a fundamental source of balance in my life.
My horse lives at Finca del Pariente, a stable founded by Esmeralda Martín, who puts an incredible amount of dedication and care into the place. Thanks to its location, we have direct access to the mountains, which allows me to go out for long rides in nature quite regularly. Those moments are deeply relaxing for me—they help me disconnect from daily responsibilities and truly be present with myself and with my horse.
My horse’s name is Hermés Vendaval. He is a Pure Spanish Horse, and his journey has not been an easy one. He was very difficult to train, and I bought him when he was six years old. During the COVID period, his previous owner moved him to Castilla-La Mancha and sadly passed away. I then brought Hermés back to Gran Canaria, and from that moment on, our journey truly began.
With the help of wonderful trainers and a lot of patience, we slowly found our path together. Today, we not only enjoy long rides in nature, but we also practice Spanish classical dressage. We have participated in several competitions and have even won a few medals along the way, which makes me incredibly proud of him.
Horseback riding teaches you patience, respect, and emotional awareness. A horse reflects your state of mind, so riding becomes almost a form of moving meditation. In a demanding professional life, this passion keeps me grounded, calm, and focused. It reminds me every day of the importance of balance, dedication, and trust—values that I also carry into my professional and personal life.

· Tell us about your relationship with animals. Do you have pets at home ? Where does this love for animals come from ?
My relationship with animals has always been very deep and very natural. It comes from empathy, respect, and a genuine love for living beings. Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
At home, I live with two Australian cockatoos, who are brothers. Their names are Cástor and Pólux, and they’ve been with me since I moved to Gran Canaria. In the early days, when we opened KopaZ Meloneras, we used to bring them to the bar, and they absolutely loved the attention—tourists would take photos with them all the time. Today, they enjoy a much calmer life with me. They are funny, affectionate, and full of personality.
I also have my dog Lola, a miniature German Pinscher, who is truly my companion. She travels everywhere with me and loves discovering new places. She’s always by my side.
In addition, I keep Betta fish at home. I find them fascinating because of their uniqueness—they are solitary fish and need their own space. I like observing them; it’s surprisingly calming and teaches respect for individual nature and boundaries.
This love for animals goes back to my childhood. I still remember a moment at school during a biology class when we were supposed to dissect a mouse. I couldn’t do it. Instead, I took the mouse home and made him my pet. His name was Anacleto, and he lived with me until he passed away naturally.
For me, animals are family, companions, and teachers. They bring balance, joy, and grounding into my life. They remind me to be present, compassionate, and respectful—values that guide not only how I live, but also how I work and relate to people.
· Do you have any other hobbies ? Any sporting activities ?
From time to time, when my schedule allows it, I like to practice sports and stay active. I especially enjoy walking, whether it’s along the Meloneras promenade or at Las Canteras, both places where I can relax, reflect, and enjoy the surroundings.
A few years ago, I also discovered a deep fascination for opera. It became such an important part of my life that I now have a season subscription at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas, which allows me to attend performances throughout the year. Opera gives me inspiration, emotional depth, and a strong connection to culture and art.
Traveling is another great passion of mine. I love discovering new places, cultures, and ways of life. Traveling helps me broaden my perspective, stay curious, and continuously learn—both as a person and as a professional.
Altogether, these hobbies help me maintain balance, creativity, and openness. They are an essential part of who I am and how I approach life.

· What are your favorite places or events in Maspalomas ? Where do you like to go out to have fun, unwind, or grab a bite to eat ?
Maspalomas is a place full of life and events throughout the year. There is always something happening, but the events that really catch my attention are the Carnivals and Maspalomas Pride. They bring people together, celebrate diversity, and reflect the open and international spirit of the area.
During the summer, one of my favorite events is the Audi Golf Night, which combines sport, social life, and a very elegant atmosphere. In my professional life, another important moment each year is One 21, where Century 21 recognizes the best offices in Spain and Portugal. This year, the event takes place in Lisbon, and I will be there, proud that our office is among the best in Spain.
When it comes to food, I have a few favorite places. I really enjoy Lola’s in Playa del Inglés, as well as Café del Mar in Meloneras. In Las Palmas, Segundo Muelle is one of my top choices.
For going out and having a drink, my favorite bar is Iguazú Lounge, owned by my friend Pierre—a charming place with a great atmosphere. I also really like Ginger in Las Canteras, which has a wonderful vibe.
For me, Maspalomas offers the perfect mix of events, gastronomy, social life, and quality of living. It’s a place where you can enjoy culture, relax, and feel part of a vibrant community.
